Avoid Becoming Obsolete: Living in a Rapidly Changing World

Technology is changing at an incredibly rapid pace.

As technology continues to advance, more and more things are becoming obsolete (or will become obsolete soon), replaced by new technology.

Companies must stay on top of the latest developments to remain competitive in an ever-evolving landscape.

Avoid becoming "obsolete"

Are you staying up to date on latest advancements?

Embrace Technology

The revolutions that will surface in years to come will continue to make profound changes.  Fortunately, new technology is designed to be helpful and easy to use.  Rather than being overwhelmed, embrace technology to discover how it can enhance and become an essential part of your daily life.  (Adapted from: "Technology in Our Life Today".

My G-Grandmother, during her life had experienced travel by covered wagon and buck board, steam engine train, automobile, and airplane and the beginnings of the "space age".  Communication by letter, telegraph, telephone, and television.  Wood stove and kerosene lantern to electric lighting and electric appliances.

How have latest advancements impacted you?

Here is a short list of significant change we have each experienced:

- Streaming services have replaced CD players, cassette tapes, and DVD players, which were once staples of home entertainment.

- Smart phones, that can take high-quality images have replaced film cameras.

- Mobile phones have replaced landlines.

- Smaller laptops and tablets are replacing the desktop computer.

- e-books and streaming services, allowing readers to access a vast library of titles anywhere they have an internet connection, are replacing books and physical media.

- e-mail and text massaging have largely replaced writing and mailing letters.

- On-line billing and bill payment have replaced postal billing.

- "Brick and Mortar" shopping replaced by "on-line" shopping.

- Carrying cash and writing checks replaced by credit card and payment apps.

- Landline and long-distance calling replaced by the mobile phone.

- Written financial ledgers replaced by digital spreadsheets.

- Maps and GPS replaced by "google maps".

- House and car keys replaced by electronic locks and FOB "mini remotes".

- Document sharing via "faxing" replaced by scanning and secure on-line document sharing services.

- Print magazines and books replaced by digital editions.

While it is important to stay on top of technology change, it is also important to refrain from purchasing the "latest", only because it is "new" and when it is not essential.
