"Healthy Aging": A Priority?

Aging is an Inevitable Part of Life: Healthy Aging is Within Our Control

We all age, regardless of our age.  Aging is not in our control.  "Healthy aging" is within our control.

Aging is an inevitable part of life.  Healthy aging is about making lifestyle choices that help us to remain as healthy and independent as possible.

KEYS TO HEALTHY AGING

Place value on things that really matter.

In our digital age, when many things vie for our time and attention - place value on things that really matter.  Prioritize the things that we care about and eliminate the rest.

Do not "re-live" regrets.

As we age, there is a tendency to re-live "regrets".  Important to remember that "we did the best we could" given the circumstances.  We cannot change the past, but we can change the present and future.

Simplify.

Life was simpler when you were younger.  Life has become increasingly complex.  Simplify.  Linda's aunt was very wise when she simplified to the point that in her "sun-down years", she kept those things that were of real value - photos of her family and a few items that were needed for living.  Everything else, she gave away.

Focus on Your Physical and Mental Health.

Schedule an annual wellness visit. Take care of your physical health through healthy eating, exercise, and taking care of your mental health.

Exercise is particularly important for maintaining muscle strength and flexibility, as well as promoting cardiovascular health.

Eating a balanced diet, rich in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, can help to reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.

Give Service.

Doing something for others (serving others) take us out of our own situation, broadens our "view of life", increases social interactions with others.

Be grateful.

Keep a "Gratitude Journal".  "Count your blessings" is essential to enjoy life to the fullest.
